WARDOGS Elytra Anti-Cheat Not Installing & Elytra Launcher Error

If WARDOGS suddenly stops launching, do not start with a complete game reinstallation.

In the new build, the launch path through Elytra Anti-Cheat was introduced, whereas earlier tests used Easy Anti-Cheat. Several different launch errors began appearing immediately after this change:

• Launch Crash – Elytra Launcher Error
• WARDOGS An anti-cheat module could not be downloaded or installed
• WARDOGS InstallModule failed
• WARDOGS Failed to open input file
• WARDOGS Access is denied os error 5
• WARDOGS Module signature verification failed
• Service start failed: OpenService 'Elytra.Service'
• WARDOGS Config fetch failed 12175
• WARDOGS launches Elytra and then causes a BSOD / complete PC crash

It is important to understand that these messages do not necessarily have the same cause. In particular, the message “anti-cheat module could not be downloaded” can be misleading: the module may have already downloaded successfully, while the actual Elytra failure occurs because Windows does not allow its SYSTEM service to read the temporary file.

Use the specific Elytra error you are experiencing rather than trying every possible Windows fix one after another.

Fix 1. Use LagoFast Elytra Fix for WARDOGS

LagoFast now has a separate Elytra Fix tool created specifically for the Elytra launch problem in WARDOGS.

This is especially useful if WARDOGS displays:

WARDOGS An anti-cheat module could not be downloaded or installed

but reinstalling the game, verifying Steam files, restarting Windows, or reinstalling Elytra does not change anything.

The reason is that this message is sometimes not related to downloading at all.

Elytra downloads its anti-cheat module to the Windows TEMP directory. The Elytra service then runs under the SYSTEM account and must have permission to read this file. If permission inheritance is broken in the TEMP folder, the download completes successfully, but the service cannot open the module, resulting in:

WARDOGS InstallModule failed:
RPC error:
WARDOGS Failed to open input file
WARDOGS Access is denied os error 5

This failure was reproduced specifically based on data from ElytraLauncher.log.

How to Use LagoFast Elytra Fix

1. Open LagoFast.

3. Open Game Tools.

4. Select Elytra Fix.

5. Wait for ElytraAclFixer to perform the diagnostic scan.

The tool checks two important things:

• the Elytra installation log for WARDOGS;
• Windows TEMP folder permissions.

If It Says “Log Not Found”

Launch WARDOGS once and wait until the Elytra error appears.

Then:

1. Close WARDOGS.
2. Return to Elytra Fix.
3. Click Scan Again.

WARDOGS usually records the Elytra log here:

If TEMP Permissions Are Broken

Click:

Back Up and Repair

The tool will automatically create a backup of the current configuration before restoring the required permission inheritance for TEMP.

After the repair:

1. Close the tool.
2. Restart Steam.
3. Launch WARDOGS again.

If It Says “Permissions OK”

Do not continue fixing the same permission issue.

This means the TEMP ACL problem is most likely not the cause of your Elytra failure. Move on to the fixes below that correspond to the specific error.

You can also use Restore Backup if you need to undo the permission repair.

This is much safer than copying random permission commands from forums because the tool first diagnoses the relevant WARDOGS paths and only then makes changes.

Fix 2. Check the Elytra Log Before Blaming the Internet

If you see:

WARDOGS An anti-cheat module could not be downloaded or installed. Check your internet connection, proxy or firewall, then try again.

do not immediately start changing your router settings.

Open:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Wardogs\ElytraLauncher.log

Scroll all the way to the bottom.

If You See:

WARDOGS InstallModule failed
WARDOGS Failed to open input file
WARDOGS Access is denied os error 5

Go back to LagoFast → WARDOGS → Game Tools → Elytra Fix.

The main problem is not the connection. The module was downloaded, but the Elytra service cannot read it from TEMP.

If the Log Contains a Different Error

Do not blindly apply the TEMP permission fix.

For example:

WARDOGS Module signature verification failed

requires a different solution.

The same applies to:

OpenService 'Elytra.Service'

This single log file can save you from repeatedly reinstalling WARDOGS for the wrong reason.

Fix 3. Update WARDOGS and Elytra Before Changing Windows Security Settings

If WARDOGS crashes or causes a BSOD immediately when Elytra starts loading, first make sure you have the newest client and anti-cheat files.

During Beta #2, a hotfix for Elytra/client was already released with additional module recovery, retry, and signature verification logic. On some systems that crashed before the update, everything worked simply after receiving the new build.

Proceed in this order:

1. Completely close WARDOGS.
2. Completely close Steam through the system tray.
3. Open Steam again.
4. Open Downloads.
5. Install all available WARDOGS updates.
6. Right-click WARDOGS Playtest.
7. Select Properties → Installed Files.
8. Click Verify integrity of game files.
9. Restart Windows.
10. Launch WARDOGS again.

You should do this before disabling Memory Integrity, virtualization, Secure Boot, and other system security features.

If the updated Elytra build already fixes your issue, there is no reason to weaken Windows security settings.

Fix 4. “Module Signature Verification Failed”

If your error explicitly says:

WARDOGS InstallModule failed
WARDOGS Module signature verification failed

or mentions:

WinVerifyTrust
Authenticode
certificate

it means the Elytra module reaches the verification stage, but Windows does not accept its signature.

This is different from the TEMP access problem and Access Denied. The same InstallModule failed heading can hide completely different failures.

Check the Elytra Certificate

1. Open the WARDOGS installation folder.

2. Open the Elytra folder.

3. Right-click:

Elytra-Setup.exe

4. Select Properties.

5. Open the Digital Signatures tab.

6. Select the listed signature.

7. Click Details.

8. Select View Certificate.

9. Open Certification Path.

10. Wait until Windows shows:

This certificate is OK.

11. Close all windows.

12. Completely restart Steam.

13. Launch WARDOGS again.

This certificate check/update was also distributed as a way to fix the current Elytra signature problem in WARDOGS support.

If the certificate still shows an error, do not continue reinstalling the game. First resolve the signature/trust-chain problem.

Fix 5. “Service Start Failed: OpenService 'Elytra.Service' 0x00000424”

The message:

Service start failed:
OpenService 'Elytra.Service':
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
0x00000424

means that Windows cannot find the Elytra service.

The WARDOGS game files themselves may be intact, while the anti-cheat service may be missing or incorrectly installed.

Reinstall Elytra, Not the Entire Game

Open:

Steam\steamapps\common\WARDOGS Playtest\Elytra

Run:

Elytra-Setup.exe

If a Repair option is available, try it first.

If Repair does not restore the service:

1. Run Elytra-Setup.exe.
2. Uninstall Elytra.
3. Restart Windows.
4. Return to the same folder.
5. Install Elytra again.
6. Restart Steam.
7. Launch WARDOGS.

On some affected systems, the problem was resolved only after completely removing and reinstalling Elytra rather than using Repair alone.

And it is still much faster than downloading WARDOGS all over again.

Fix 6. “Config Fetch Failed: WinHttpSendRequest 12175”

Another version of the Elytra launch failure looks like this:

Elytra Launcher:
WARDOGS Config fetch failed 12175:
WinHttpSendRequest:
win32 error 12175

This occurs at an earlier stage of the launcher process.

Start in this order:

1. Completely close Steam.
2. Open Steam again.
3. Make sure WARDOGS has received the latest update.
4. Restart Windows.
5. Check the Elytra certificate using the steps above.
6. Launch WARDOGS again.

This error has already appeared temporarily and then disappeared after changes to Elytra/backend, so you should not immediately reinstall Windows or change BIOS settings.

If other players suddenly receive the same config-fetch error, it is better to wait for the Elytra service to stabilize before changing additional local settings.

Fix 7. WARDOGS Worked Yesterday, but Today Shows an Elytra Launcher Error

This is a very typical Beta #2 scenario:

Yesterday → the firing range/training worked

Today → Elytra Launcher Error

This does not mean that WARDOGS files suddenly became corrupted.

The anti-cheat launch path changed in the Beta #2 client. Users who played normally in previous builds began receiving errors after Elytra was introduced; even file verification, reinstalling WARDOGS, updating Windows, and running as administrator did not always help.

Instead, use this order:

LagoFast Elytra Fix → latest WARDOGS update → check Elytra log → match the exact error → fix only the affected component

Do not start with a 40+ GB reinstallation.

Fix 8. Smart App Control Blocks Elytra

Use this only if the previous fixes did not help and you are using Windows 11.

On some Beta #2 systems, Elytra installed successfully, but Windows Smart App Control prevented the anti-cheat component from running. After disabling this feature, restarting, and reinstalling Elytra, the game launched on several affected PCs.

Before changing this setting, try:

• LagoFast Elytra Fix;
• updating WARDOGS/Elytra;
• checking the certificate;
• repairing/reinstalling Elytra.

If you decide to check Smart App Control:

1. Open Windows Security.
2. Open App & browser control.
3. Open Smart App Control settings.
4. Check whether Smart App Control is blocking Elytra.

Be careful with this setting. Do not disable Windows security features simply because a random launch guide recommends it.

Also note that Smart App Control is a Windows 11 feature, so this is not relevant to Windows 10.

Fix 9. WARDOGS Causes a BSOD When Launching Elytra

Some Elytra failures go beyond an ordinary launcher error.

The sequence may look like this:

Press Play → Elytra loads → PC freezes → DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL / SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED → restart

In one current case, the crash occurred specifically while the Elytra kernel driver was loading, even after extensive checks of drivers, overlays, and virtualization settings.

If this happens:

Do This First

1. Stop repeatedly launching WARDOGS.
2. Completely close Steam.
3. Open it again and install the latest WARDOGS/Elytra update.
4. Verify WARDOGS files.
5. Restart Windows.
6. Try one “clean” launch.

Current WARDOGS discussions already include systems where an Elytra update alone eliminated the BSOD.

Do Not Immediately Disable

• Memory Integrity;
• virtualization;
• Secure Boot;
• random kernel drivers;
• Windows Defender.

A kernel-level crash is more serious than an ordinary game crash. If the newest Elytra build continues to consistently crash Windows, stop forcing repeated launches and wait for an anti-cheat update rather than destabilizing the entire system.

Fix 10. Linux / Bazzite: Do Not Use the Windows Elytra Fix

Linux has a different problem.

The current Elytra build may fail with:

WARDOGS InstallModule failed
WARDOGS Failed to open input file
File not found (os error 2)

because the Elytra service/module path currently does not work correctly under Proton. Earlier WARDOGS beta builds successfully used EAC through Proton, but the September Elytra build changed this path.

Do not apply the Windows TEMP permission fix as though this were the same problem.

And do not bypass the launcher or anti-cheat for multiplayer.

Bypassing the launcher may allow the game or firing range to open, but users were later kicked from multiplayer sessions with the error “no valid heartbeat.”

This means:

WARDOGS executable running ≠ Elytra authentication working

The proposed workaround for Linux also explicitly bypasses the launcher, and even its author warned that it does not provide full anti-cheat support.

For Linux, it is better to wait for proper Proton/Elytra compatibility than to try to bypass the anti-cheat.

Fix 11. Error 1147405309 After Elytra Has Already Started Normally

Do not confuse this with an Elytra installation problem.

You may successfully:

launch WARDOGS → enter the firing range → later receive Access Denied 1147405309

This means that Elytra has already started.

Error 1147405309 is related to account/test access rather than a missing Elytra module. The same scenario occurred during Beta #2, when a user had already played in the firing range and later received Access Denied.

You do not need to:

• reinstall Elytra;
• repair TEMP permissions;
• reinstall WARDOGS.

Instead, check:

• whether the current test phase/server window is open;
• whether your account has access to this phase;
• whether you are launching the correct WARDOGS client.

Use the complete error code to determine which instructions you need.

What Not to Do When You Get an Elytra Error in WARDOGS

Some affected users have already tried combinations of:

• reinstalling WARDOGS;
• repeatedly reinstalling Elytra;
• repeatedly verifying files;
• updating GPU drivers;
• running everything as administrator;
• disabling Memory Integrity;
• changing virtualization settings;
• changing firewall rules;

and still received the same Elytra error.

Therefore, do not randomly try fixes one after another.

Use this order:

1. LagoFast Elytra Fix

2. Update WARDOGS/Elytra

3. Read ElytraLauncher.log

4. Match the exact failure

5. Fix only that failure

This is much faster than applying every “anti-cheat fix” you find on the internet.

Check:

BSOD When Loading Elytra

First update the WARDOGS/Elytra build. Do not immediately disable Windows security features.

Error 1147405309

Stop troubleshooting Elytra. Instead, check WARDOGS account/test access.

Linux / Bazzite

The current Proton/Elytra problem is different. Do not use an anti-cheat bypass as a “fix” for multiplayer.
